Texas A&M University-Central Texas Joins Texas Esports Collegiate
A university building its esports program from day one, with Texas tournaments already on the calendar.
Texas A&M University-Central Texas in Killeen has joined Texas Esports Collegiate, the Collective’s collegiate track.
A program built from the ground up
A&M-Central Texas is beginning to build its program, identifying competitive games and making plans to establish a competition space. The university plans to begin recruiting for its team in Spring 2027, with competition set to begin in Fall 2027.
What membership means
Texas Esports Collegiate gives member programs three things:
A calendar of tournaments: In-person LANs across Texas, and member crews enter free.
The chance to host: Our events run on member campuses, and members can bid to bring one home.
A network: Member programs are connected to each other and to the people building collegiate esports in Texas.
For a new program, the network comes first. A&M-Central Texas is planning rooms, rosters, and their first esports events - all with support from people who have done it before. The Collective spent two days on campus this summer working through space options and league choices with their administration.
Membership is open to two- and four-year programs statewide, whether the program has seven teams or zero. (Texas Esports Collegiate is the collegiate track of the Collective. High school programs have a home too, on the scholastic track, Texas Esports Conference.)
In their words
“We are excited about this opportunity and will be working to field competitive teams in a number of titles. Our student interest feedback on adding esports was positive. We think this will open new opportunities for students to be involved, connect with each other through recreational or club esports, and support their university in an active, competitive environment.”
Clifton W. Jones, Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Texas A&M University-Central Texas
“You can start a program from scratch inside a Texas circuit,” said Aaron Jaggers, founder of the Texas Esports Collective.
